She Should Run Website Redesign

When I joined She Should Run in 2018, I had inherited a newly designed website. This website came with some challenges including poor mobile optimization, a confusing navigation, and some broken data gathering experiences. In 2020, I began a redesign project to start from scratch and create a new site that addressed these issues and also launch a virtual community platform for the now 30,000+ women who have registered for our content and curriculum.

User Journey

I began the project by plotting out the various audiences and their journey through our website and programs. What questions did they have and how could we efficiently get them the answers they need?

Copy Development

After defining the website content needs, I worked with stakeholders from teams across the organization to develop copy and gather/find/create associated imagery.

Defining page content

Because we were building a panel-based Wordpress template, I broke down the content into reusable layouts that would make creating new web pages a simple process that could be done by a team member with minimal technical knowledge.

Designing the panels

When we had a good idea of what the content was going to look like, I began designing the panel templates to be built in Wordpress. We were looking to create a simple, clean site where the information was easily accessible to visitors, no matter what they were looking to find.

A new Community platform

In addition to the website, we simultaneously created a brand new platform to house our content, resources, and curriculum. We selected the BuddyBoss platform for Wordpress. The She Should Run Community required us to create a two-step registration process that syncs our data to Salesforce. We had recently implemented LearnDash as our learning management system and this folded nicely into the BuddyBoss platform. Over 30,000 women from all walks of life are in the She Should Run Community.

Success!

We immediately saw positive returns from the website redesign. Registrations for our Community increased by 175%, from an average of 46 per week to 127.

In the year following the launch, we had a 48% increase in site visits and a 102% increase in page views, compared to the year prior.
